Top Spring Cleaning Tips That Can Help Sell Your Home

Make your home sparkle and shine with these spring cleaning tips!

Spring is finally here, making it the perfect time to do some cleaning after a long winter. Your home will be more pleasant, but it will also be healthier after getting rid of dirt, dust, and other buildups.

Spring cleaning is also a great intro to listing a home for sale. Deep cleaning is part of preparing a home for sale and decluttering and staging the furniture and décor. You should begin spring cleaning before you wade into the other tasks that must be done before selling a home.

The Houston real estate market remains robust as many people continue to move here for jobs and a more affordable cost of living. That has helped increase housing prices as buyers compete for a limited inventory of homes. Houston is still considered a seller’s market.

Once you have decided to list in the Houston area, hiring a licensed real estate agent with extensive experience should be the top item on your to-do list. Look for an agent with an excellent track record of success in the last several months. Good agents understand pricing trends and have great ideas for preparing homes to facilitate fast sales for the best profit. A well-prepared home will wow buyers and lead to multiple offers. The ideal scenario is a bidding war that will drive up the price. Once you’ve hired an agent, it’s time to wade into spring cleaning.

Plan ahead

The best time to wade into spring cleaning is when the weather is nice enough that you can open the windows to air out the house. It’s also good if you have a full day or two to devote to the job, which makes a weekend ideal for the task. Try to keep those days free from appointments or activities, so you can get through the spring cleaning uninterrupted. This is a massive two-person project, where one person can attack one list of tasks while the other wades into another list of chores.

Where to begin?

It’s a good idea to write a list, so you’re sure you’ll clean every area of Montrose real estate efficiently. Remember that living rooms and kitchens are the rooms buyers will focus on most, so apply extra elbow grease to those rooms.

Start high

Start high up in the living room and the bedrooms to do the most efficient job—clean cobwebs out of ceiling corners and dust light fixtures, ceiling fans, and vents. Replace burned-out light bulbs. If you haven’t switched to energy-efficient LED bulbs, it’s a small investment you can do now that will pay off later.

Next, clean window sills and tracks, the fireplace mantle, and dust and polish surfaces such as the coffee table, end tables, and cabinets. In the bedrooms, dust and polish dressers and any other furniture. Dust off picture frames, mirrors, and other wall hangings that attract dirt and grime.

Tackle the windows

If the living room and bedrooms in your Cypress real estate have curtains, either vacuum them with a hand attachment or run them through the washing machine and hang them on the line, so they smell fresh. If you have blinds, dust them off.

Letting the light in is essential, particularly once you’ve scheduled open houses and private showings. Thoroughly wash your windows, inside and out. Use a squeegee and a micro-fiber cloth dry the windows streak-free. Take off screens and either vacuum them or wash them off. It’s incredible how bright your rooms look when the windows are clean!

Zoom in on the floors

Wash baseboards and moulding where dirt and grime can build up over the years. Pay close attention to the corners. Polish doorknobs and wipe down light switches, cabinet handles, and stair rails.

Clean the floors

The final step in the living room and bedroom of any The Heights homes for sale is to clean the floor thoroughly. If you have carpets, they should be vacuumed and then steam cleaned. Depending on how dirty they are, it might make sense to hire a professional company to make sure the job is done right. They can get out stains you might not be able to if you rent a steam cleaner. Some people choose to do this themselves, though. If you have wood floors, use a recommended cleaner until they shine. Sweep or vacuum up loose dirt for tile floors and then mop the floor with warm water and a cleaner.

In the bedrooms, organize all your closets because buyers will be nosey! Clear off the dresser top and nightstands. Pick up any clothes or other items that are lying around. This is a great way to declutter your home before scheduling showings and open houses.

Kitchen and bathroom

Buyers of Cypress homes for sale will spend a lot of time looking over your kitchen and bathrooms, so make sure they are shiny and bright.

Wipe down the front of the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen and the countertops. Make sure any food residue is completely clean, especially in overlooked spots like the microwave or around the edged of the stove. Clean the fronts and tops of all appliances and polish any stainless steel surfaces. Wipe down the sink and faucet. Clear the counters of clutter and organize the drawers, cabinets, and pantry. Mop and polish the floor for the final touch!

When pivoting to the bathrooms, clean the mirrors, countertop, vanity doors and drawers, sink, and faucet. Scrub the toilet and bathtub or shower until they shine. Change the shower curtain and floor mat if they could use a refresh and mop the floor.

These are the major steps in spring cleaning that can help sell your home. When you’re ready to list your home, work with Heather Fordham of the New Heights Group for a smooth, enjoyable transaction!
